“It looks like atrial fibrillation to me” says your doctor.  She says more but the medical jargon leaves your mind with more questions than when you first heard the words atrial fibrillation.

What is it?  You heard her say afib too…is that the same thing?

How did this happen?

Is that why I’m a lot more tired lately—what are the symptoms?

…what can I do to get better?

A lot goes through your mind after being diagnosed with a heart condition.  Its easy to go through your entire life taking your heart for granted, sometimes not even realizing its there and then one day…a two word diagnosis changes your perspective.

Making things even more difficult is trying to understand what has happened and is happening to your body.

Your main source of information, your doctor, is usually good at finding out what’s wrong, but sometimes you need a medical dictionary just to figure out her explanation of why you have a cough.  Maybe a medical encyclopedia will aid you in deciphering her explanation of your heart condition.

Atrial fibrillation, or afib for short, is a heart condition that affects many people.  This website is written to help you as well as the many other non-medical people out there who are trying to understand it but are tired of trying to understand the many complicated explanations.
